Have yet to use this as I brew in metric. Please add this.
Good app, needs a few tweaks but very extensive features should cover most situations. LOVE the brew timer, its worth it for that feature alone (timers go off as you program in your boil schedule, additions etc). Everything else is gravy.
Very good app! Been using it for almost two years now and it is very useful. And the batch timer is SO useful.
Can now start from any part of the brewing process and skip forward. Great app for all things brewing related
Brew Pal is incredibly well made software that’s indispensable to my brewing. Excellent app; very courteous and helpful developer, and responsive. iPhone 5 screen size was supported in days after my request; this was no small task for an indie dev! Keep up the great work! :-)
About time I reviewed this - brew pal has been key to many successful all grain brew sessions so its time to say thanks! Way easier to use and just as powerful as the other app that gets mentioned in the forums. More intuitive to use, way better for changing units of measure on the fly, easy to customize ingredients characteristics, better for recipe scaling, nice interface. Brew day functions could be improved. Could use an updated and expanded grain list.
Its proof that I love this app because I still use it after all my recipes were corrupted and lost. My advice, use the app but email all your recipes to yourself. Dont trust it to iCloud. I did and the recipes, are all lost. Oh well, my memory is pretty good.
This app used to be great! But After a recent update I lost all my recipes and the alarms for brewing “events’ do not work. Time to look for another brew app. Would like a refund since I purchased this app last January and it has been broken since the summer so I didn’t get much use.
This app has increased our reputation from dirt-bag brewer-in-a-basement to brewmaster-with-style. We have been able to explore different styles, synthesize original recipes, and keep the batches consistent with this app as it tracks your temperatures, volumes and gravitates. It is particularly good at tracking the mashing/decoctions/brewing, and provides you with all the ingredients you can find in your local retailers. I have become the official scientist in our brewing relationship with this app.
Although this app has not been updated in quite a while it is well worth paying for just to have the information about the beer styles. The match style is really great and then the info and history about each style is invaluable. I use it every brew. Id love if they could add a refractometer alcohol calculation. But for now it works mostly and provides great service for less than the price of a single pint in most bars.
Any chance this app will see the updated style guidelines anytime soon?
Disappointed to find that the app wont work on my ipod 4 because it requires IOS 7. This is Bull$hit. I know there were older versions, why not offer on ethat is compatable.
Lots of helpful information for all grain brewing. Thx
If youve never used quality brewing software before, and dont do all-grain, then you "might" think this is neat. However, it has NEVER had enough in it to do serious all-grain brewing, like Beersmith, Beeralchemy, and other PC programs. That was OK, cause it was cheap and had a bunch of calculators, like converting Brix to Specific Gravity with refractometer adjustment. But the new release is broken and buggy! They tried to do more with the brewing part, failed on that, and then deleted all the useful tools! ITS NOW WORTHLESS! Give me the old, working version or give me my money back! Updated to 3.1 - now crashes, POS!
Ive only been brewing for 6 months and havent used Beersmith or any of the other pricier apps but this one is well worth the price. It does everything I need for all grain batches and the calculators seem to be right on the money. I would give it 5 stars but some of the defaults and menus are not perfect. It is pretty frequently updated and the developer continues to add more useful functions and clean it up. I love this app and use it for every batch. Start with this before you waste big money on some of the other apps out there.
Using brew pal for all my batch calculations for years now and I love it. Interface design is good. Allows me to plan out and tinker with my all grain batches with ease. I vastly prefer this to beersmith. Only features that would really help me is a residual alkalinity calc for water and a pitching rate calc. Great app, especially for the price.
Great brew day app. Its all I need to brew. One request: could an export option be added that would just export a simple list of ingredients instead of having to email links or what not? I discovered this app on reddit yet I cant export my recipes to share on reddit or save my recipe as a note file. This would also be helpful at the LHBS to serve as a grocery list. Also, could the calendar button on the recipes section be larger? Sometimes I have a hard time getting a recipe to open the date section instead of the generic recipe. Will update to five stars when updates are made. Overall a great app though.
This app should be required for home brewers.
The database of ingredients and styles is impressive. Recipe creation is as effective as any desktop brewing software available. I updated this review once its functionality became clear, and I am happy to recommend it highly.
